A multi-disciplinary design team was put together to develop
a proposal for Hillside in which the existing buildings are rebuilt
in a style and size that is in keeping with the local character and scale of
neighbouring residential properties, with a more sensitive layout that considers
the openess of the Green Belt.
The landscape strategy approach took into account
surrounding priority habitats and hydrology from design inception.
The design seeks to create a link between buildings and exterior features, with an aim to generate a constant dialogue between landscape and architectural buildings, expressing a seamless transition between the two.
A productive garden and small orchard are included in the proposal, aimed at boosting biodiversity and enhancing the site’s amenity.
The proposal includes 35 new tree
s to visually soften roofscape and to subtly blend the proposal into the landscape, while also creating a striking visual entrance to the property.
Following a pond ecology survey in the spring (2025), the proposal aims to rejuvenate the existing pond, enhancing the marginal planting in the process.
Nature-based SuDS features have been included within the proposal including rain gardens, bioretention planters and water butts to capture rainwater and discharge through existing ditches.
