Choice Care Group (specialists in the care of people with complex needs)
and Design Build Solutions invited Refolo Landscape Architects to
design the communal gardens for a new specialist care home on Deanery Road in Bristol.
The
design is the product of a wide research in the specific needs of the
users, backed up by desktop studies in the subject. The gardens provide a
simple looped pathway around a sensory garden to minimize spatial
confusion. Freedom within the space is allowed within a secure perimeter
that limits access to potentially dangerous situations. Seating is
arranged for both groups and individuals. Covered canopies provide
adequate shelter and protection. Gardening is used as a key therapeutic
activity in the care home.
