R-LA were commissioned to design a pocket park in Peterborough, as
part of a larger retail proposal. The park would serve as a park &
ride facility, offering cycle parking as well as a cycle rental shop to
encourage the use of bicycles for healthier living standards.
The proposed cycle themed pocket park, with circular paving patterns and
planting, includes an amenity grass area for informal social
interaction, surrounded by native ornamental planting with year round
interest to encourage wildlife.
The choice of wildflower mix to the green roof of the Cycle building
facility is designed to attract local wildlife, including House Sparrow,
Bullfinch, Song Rush and Green Woodpecker. An enclosed rain garden,
useful for educational purposes, provides the ideal undisturbed habitat
for a wide range of species.
Public art installations to a cycle theme would make the area a landmark along the street.
